Usher’s back with a new track titled “No Limit” with Young Thug making a guest appearance. Produced by Christopher Perry and Brandon “B.A.M.” Hodge, the latter known for his work with Chris Brown and Trey Songz, the song carries a deep, funk groove that would make Beats by The Pound proud, but the songwriting leaves a lot to be desired here.
Usher sounds like he’s trying to fit in with the current aesthetic of R&B by trading promises of spoiling his lady with lovemaking, inspired by No Limit…whatever that’s supposed to mean, and his Black Card. With him pledging to give her “that Master P,” it’s hard to figure out whether this is really Usher or him doing his best August Alsina impression. Missing in the action is the guy who spilled his guts on Confessions or, if we’re relating it solely to the concept of wooing a woman, the singer who wooed the ladies with songs like soothing ballads along the lines of “Nice and Slow.” The only thing that makes sense here is Thugger Thugger. Imagine that.
