“Superfly” Jimmy Snuka has been removed from the WWE Hall of Fame section of WWE.com, and had all mentions of him scrubbed from the site, following third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges in the 1983 death of his then-girlfriend, Nancy Argentino. The 72-year-old Snuka was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and sent to Lehigh County Jail in lieu of 10 percent of $100,000 bail.
WWE had previously announced that they were reviewing Snuka’s WWE legends contract. The company issued the following statement on Thursday:
“Jimmy Snuka’s non-wrestling ‘legends’ contract has been suspended and we are currently removing his images from our media platforms pending the outcome of this case.”
The situation is similar to what happened to Hulk Hogan back in July, when his merchandise was pulled and all mentions of him were removed from WWE media following the leak of a racist rant. WWE generally takes a strong “if you did something bad, you didn’t exist” stance in response to tragedy and controversy. It’s interesting to note that it took days for Snuka’s removal, while Hogan was scrubbed before it was even clear what had happened.
A current search for “Snuka” on WWE.com only brings up results for his daughter, current WWE Diva Tamina Snuka.
