Brie Bella Confirmed Her Upcoming WWE Retirement On ‘Good Morning America’

On Monday, news broke that Total Divas star and former Divas Champion Brie Bella would be leaving WWE soon, following in the footsteps of her husband Daniel Bryan, who officially retired from the sport last week. Bella confirmed that news in an interview on Tuesday’s Good Morning America.

“Feeling and seeing everything he went through with his retirement, I just feel that it’s time for me to hang up the boots. It’s gonna be hard on me as well, but that day is definitely very close.”

Bella told them to expect her retirement announcement “sometime this summer,” so it looks like she’ll be sticking around at least through WrestleMania 32. There was speculation that her Divas Championship match with Charlotte would be her last in the company, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The segment (which you can watch above) goes in-depth with Bryan and Bella about the damage competing in WWE does, and why they’d choose to hide some of Bryan’s scarier health problems to protect his job. There’s even an excerpt from Triple H about how athletes are like thoroughbreds: “Someone has to pull the rein, because they will run themselves into the ground if given that opportunity.”
