Brock Lesnar has failed another drug test according to the USADA. In a statement released by the UFC, Brock failed for the same (currently unknown) substance on July 9, the night of UFC 200, which was flagged in his out-of-competition sample on June 28. Brock came under fire from his UFC 200 opponent, Mark Hunt, for the UFC’s seemingly laissez-faire attitude about letting Brock fight while not being under the scrutiny of the typical multi-month drug testing that athletes under USADA are subject to.
This is the UFC’s statement in full:
“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Brock Lesnar that his in-competition sample collection from July 9, 2016, at UFC 200, has tested positive for the same substance as his previously announced out-of-competition collection on June 28, 2016.
“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. The Nevada State Athletic Commission also retains jurisdiction over this matter as the sample collection was performed at UFC 200 in Las Vegas.
“Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”
The USADA has given Brock Lesnar a bigger black eye than Mark Hunt with these results. Brock said he was just a “jacked white boy” but now we know that taking a fight on short notice after being away for five years and looking good doing it is just inconceivable for a 39-year-old. Mark Hunt said he wanted half of Lesnar’s purse or he wanted out of the UFC, then said he wanted it all. We wonder how he feels now.
Lesnar is facing a two-year ban from the UFC with these results, which may, in turn, end his career. This test probably won’t, however, affect Lesnar’s Summerslam match against Randy Orton. Go figure.
