Back in 2001, Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell shared a trailer with WWE Hall of Famer Macho Man Randy Savage on the set of Spider-Man. Savage was playing pro wrestler “Bonesaw,” and Campbell was the ring announcer. According to this clip (courtesy of Yahoo! Movies), Campbell spent most of the shoot listening to the wrestling legend get “coached” by his girlfriend. As they say, the cream rises to the top. I guess we also have a new way to interpret, “Bonesaw is ready.”
I’m not sure what’s more wonderfully absurd, the fact that Bruce Campbell has a Macho Man Randy Savage sex story, or the fact that Lucy Lawless is there to experience the story with us in real-time. Hey, at least Bruce wasn’t sharing a trailer with Hulk Hogan. That could’ve gotten really weird.
If you’ve never seen the actual scene, here it is. Bruce Campbell, Macho Man, Tobey Maguire and Octavia Spencer of all people in the same scene, about wrestling, from a superhero movie. Let’s never forget that there was once a weirder collection of WWE-adjacent people in a Marvel movie than Batista, a talking space raccoon and a monosyllabically emotive tree.
