Of the three women’s championship matches at Hell in a Cell, two of them featured title changes. Although Becky Lynch retained her Smackdown Women’s Title in the Cell against Sasha Banks, the Kabuki Warriors won the Women’s Tag Titles from Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, and now Charlotte has won the Smackdown Women’s Title from Bayley.
Despite my own prediction, it’s not a huge surprise. Charlotte has been heavily featured in promotions for Smackdown on Fox, which Bayley has not. Also, Bayley had to blatantly cheat to retain the belt against Charlotte at Clash of Champions, which didn’t bode well for her in the rematch.
Unlike that match, tonight’s match actually went on for a bit, with plenty of back and forth between the two. Although Bayley looked strong with plenty of moves and a number of nearfalls, it was only a matter of time until Charlotte caught her in the Figure 8, forcing Bayley to tap. After the match, Bayley was visibly distraught as Charlotte celebrated, yelling and crying and pushing away a ref who attempted to help her up
This is Charlotte’s 10th Championship win on the main roster, as well as her 5th Raw Women’s Championship win. She was also the last winner of the WWE Divas Championship, and has won the Smackdown Women’s Championship four times.
