On Friday night, fans at the NXT house show in Nashville reported that Elias Samson appeared to suffer a leg injury during a match against Andrade “Cien” Almas. The match was stopped and declared a no contest and Samson was helped to the back. Now the official word has come down from WWE that he has suffered a broken ankle and will be out of action for the time being.
On Monday, WWE.com posted the following about Samson’s injury:
NXT Superstar Elias Samson suffered a fractured left ankle while competing at an NXT Live Event in Nashville this past weekend, WWE.com has learned.
“The match had to be stopped due to the injury and Elias was helped to the back, unable to bear weight on the ankle,” WWE ringside physician Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com. “Elias will be put in a cast and crutches, but is expected to make a full recovery.”
Samson, who plays a nebulous “drifter” character on NXT television, is a polarizing performer among NXT fans, to say the least. Since being handed his first NXT loss by Johnny Gargano and then losing his subsequent match to Apollo Crews at NXT TakeOver: Dallas during WrestleMania weekend, he has mostly been dropping one-sided matches to NXT main eventers like Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Bálor.
We wish Samson all the best and a speedy recovery. Hopefully this bad news will allow the Drifter to prove that the only way to win … is to lose control.
