Days after Anthem Sports & Entertainment (the company that owns Impact Wrestling and the Pursuit Channel, among other properties) purchased a majority stake in AXS TV (the channel that airs WOW Women of Wrestling and the American TV version of New Japan Pro Wrestling, among other shows), it was announced that Impact would move to AXS from Pursuit (while still simulcasting on Twitch) after their Bound For Glory PPV on October 20.
We still don’t know on which day of the week or time Impact will air on AXS, but as of today, we know they’ve gotten another wrestling promotion on AXS before they even premiere – their Mexican partner company, AAA.
Per a press release from AXS (and a report by ESPN minutes earlier), the channel will air the entirety of AAA’s Lucha Invades NY (which has also been called AAA Invading NY and Lucha Libre AAA Invading New York during its promotion) this Friday, September 20, starting at 8 PM ET. The show was co-promoted by AAA and Impact and had been available to watch live as a pay-per-view on Fite for $29.99.
This AAA show got a lot of positive feedback from those in attendance and featured not only big AAA stars (with a main event of Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. Blue Demon Jr.) and Cain Velasquez’s second pro wrestling match ever, but Impact mainstays as well. The second match on the card saw Team Impact (Josh Alexander, Michael Elgin, and Sami Callihan) take on Team AAA (Murder Clown, Drago, and Faby Apache) and the Reina de Reinas Championship match of Taya Valkyrie vs. Tessa Blanchard has also happened in the Knockouts Division. AXS has yet to announce if there will be more standalone AAA programming on their channel, but the airing of Invading NY could be seen as not just an AAA show, but an ad for Impact arriving on the network about a month later as well.
