It took them long enough, but WWE Studios finally decided to make a movie about pro wrestling.
According to a report from Variety, the studio is co-producing a biopic about WWE Hall of Famer Gorgeous George, to be written by actor Josh Gad and his partner Ryan Dixon. You may know Gad best from his role as “Banana Dog” in Marmaduke. He’s also a former Daily Show correspondent, a member of the original Broadway cast of The Book of Mormon and the voice of Olaf in Frozen, but no, you know him from Marmaduke.
Also, before you make the joke, WWE Studios is not making a movie about Macho Man Randy Savage’s WCW valet, nor is it a film about a beautiful monkey.
If you aren’t familiar with Gorgeous George, he’s the most influential performer in the history of pro wrestling, bottom line. He may have single-handedly created American pop culture and camp by introducing flamboyant showmanship into the sport, making wrestling a popular television attraction, helping make television itself popular and influencing not only every wrestler who came after him, but cultural legends like Muhammad Ali and James Brown. George (real name George Raymond Wagner) passed away in 1962, and was honored by WWE with an induction into their Hall of Fame in 2010.
Our next question is, “How do we convince Daniel Craig to be in this?” Maybe Clive Owen? Not enough American actors have faces like George’s. Who would you cast? Let us know in our comments section below. For research, here’s a bit about George:
