2016’s been such a whirlwind that it can be easy to forget that CM Punk got his ass handed to him at UFC 203. We kid! Why wouldn’t you remember? (It’s not like your brain has to rent out the full 2:14 bout time or anything.) His opponent Mickey Gall also remembers what happened in Cleveland and he doesn’t expect any “Most Improved” trophies coming the former WWE champ’s way in 2017.
Gall recently engaged in a bit of chat on The MMA Hour ahead of this weekend’s welterweight tilt with smiley MMA boy wonder Sage Northcutt. He told host Ariel Helwani that the murmured return of Punk to the Octagon would be “ballsy,” but ill-advised from a competition standpoint.
“I think he’ll be dealt (with) the same way I dealt him,” offered Gall on Punk’s chances against pro fighters. “If he fights a UFC caliber guy, I think they’ll do it in the same way. So I think in hindsight, he probably should’ve taken some regional fights, amateur fighters, smaller shows. But I think that’s ballsy of him to want to come back.”
Of course, if Mickey Gall completely obliterates Sage Northcutt on Saturday, that might give CM Punk’s MMA stock a minuscule boost, right? Anyone? C’mon, it’s a tough gig!
