Ever since the Superstar Shake-Up, Smackdown Live has been airing promo videos touting the impending arrival of The New Day, who have been off TV since The Revival “broke” Kofi Kingston’s ankle. Kofi has been cleared to return to action, which means The New Day have been cleared to return to our televisions.
Pretty much everyone assumed The New Day would make their Smackdown Live debut on Tuesday night, especially since The Usos retained their Smackdown Tag Team Championship against Breezango at Sunday’s Backlash pay-per-view, and the runway was clear for a new babyface team to challenge for those titles.
However, The New Day never popped up on Tuesday, and Breezango got another extremely entertaining shot at the tag titles. Unfortunately, Breezy and Dango came up short once again, seemingly putting a definitive end to that storyline. The New Day DID finally arrive on Tuesday, but it wasn’t on Smackdown Live. Instead, they stopped by as surprise guests on WWE Network’s Talking Smack after-show.
They arrived with a new colorway of Booty-O’s, and news about Xavier Woods’ new baby (it gets the hiccups and cries a lot). There was a lot of bantering with Shane McMahon and Renee Young, which is a very comprehensive preview of the bantering that will be in full effect once The New Day returns for real.
