Pretty much as long as people have been aware that Ronda Rousey is a huge, lifelong wrestling fan, there have been rumblings and rumors and speculation about whether she’ll eventually wind up in WWE. She famously made a WrestleMania appearance at the height of her popularity, and is occasionally a fixture at PWG events in southern California.
She’s also a member of the MMA “Four Horsewomen,” a quartet of professional fighters who also are massive pro wrestling fans. One of the four horsewomen, Shayna Baszler, is participating in the WWE Mae Young Classic tournament, and Rousey was on hand at the first set of tapings to support her buddy. This set off the speculation about Ronda to WWE all over again, and even Jim Ross thinks it’s a matter of when, not if, Rousey will sign.
WWE has been very publicly, very vocally interested in bringing Rousey in for years, but it looks like everything might finally be lining up for that to happen. According to Fightful, Rousey is interested in making the transition to pro wrestler, and has even sought out some manner of training to prepare for the squared circle.
Fightful’s backstage WWE sources tell them that Rousey spoke to Triple H to set up her appearance at the Mae Young Classic (so it wasn’t just some spur of the moment decision or anything), and WWE has referred Rousey to Brian Kendrick’s school in the Los Angeles area for potential training. Kendrick, you may recall, was the one who performed one-on-one, hands-on training for Eva Marie when she renewed her dedication to the “wrestling” part of pro wrestling.
It seems like Rousey would be a Matt Riddle-like natural for wrestling, but time will tell. And we’re probably find out sooner rather than later.
