The number one fear of anybody throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game is that they will screw it up. Nobody ever sees a replay of a good first pitch, but if it goes awry, you better believe it will make the rounds. This is especially true if you are somebody who is considered an athlete. It’s one thing for Mariah Carey to botch a first pitch, but if you are something of a professional wrestler, a poor toss is going to result in jokes. However, apparently there is a way to salvage the situation, and it’s simply to ask for a second chance at that first pitch. That’s what WWE’s Sheamus did recently.
Even if you don’t watch wrestling, you may recognize Sheamus. He’s been pretty prominent in recent years, and he has crazy red hair and super pale skin. He’s the Irish guy you may have seen somewhere, basically. Sheamus is portraying Rocksteady, the rhino counterpart of Bebop, in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel, and to promote that movie, he threw out the first pitch at a Rays game.
In truth, his first pitch wasn’t that bad. Certainly it wasn’t going to become infamous. That didn’t satisfy Sheamus, though, and so he asked for a second opportunity. He’s a giant man and a four-time WWE world champion, so who was going to say no? His second pitch went better, and Sheamus was clearly quite happy with it. So, future first pitch throwers, if you ever are unsatisfied with how your throw went, consider asking for a do-over.
