Big E Reveals The Big Show Used To Say ‘Terrible Things’ About The New Day Backstage

As glorious as the New Day can be when they’re holding microphones on WWE TV, their enjoyability tends to skyrocket even higher when you get them outside the ring — just take our hilarious interview with the trio at the Espys, for example, or the time they went to town on some Patti’s Pies. What I’m trying to say is New Day interviews are a must-watch simply because you never know what they’ll say next.

Case in point: Whatculture recently wrangled Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods for an interview during a recent WWE 2K17 press junket in the UK, and while the bulk of the conversation is designed for laughs and nothing more, the New Day does get real for one moment when they’re asked for their thoughts on Vince McMahon. “Vince McMahon believed in the New Day,” says Kingston. “He was the only one,” confirms Woods. That then set Big E off on a story about the Big Show not exactly having the same level of confidence in the trio that the chairman of the board did:

“The New Day likes to hold a grudge. We’ll hold a grudge. A lot of people have said a lot of terrible and awful things. Lot of terrible things. I will name names. Yeah, I’ll do it. Big Show! I will name that name because he said some terrible things but he apologized. In the back — this is true, this is real — when we were in the back, he would come up to Kofi and say, ‘Why are you wasting your time with those two? They’re dragging you down!’ We’re standing right there! But you know what? We showed him. He had to come to us — he fell down on his knees and he said, ‘I’m sorry, I apologize, I was wrong. You’re the best!’ “

In fairness to the Big Show, the New Day’s gimmick was DOA when they first debuted in 2014. No one could have predicted just how massive the trio would become — they recently became the longest-reigning WWE Tag Team Champions of all time, John Stewart just appeared in their corner at SummerSlam, and oh yeah, they have an actual cereal now. It’s nice to know the beef between Show and the New Day has been squashed, though. Now that means Show can focus on his upcoming WrestleMania match against Shaq.
