After months of hype and breathless anticipation, the biggest direct-to-DVD event of the year is finally set to hit store shelves on Tuesday. Of course, I’m talking about The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown! That exclamation point is part of the title, but I am legitimately excited.
As if the sight of Fred Flintstone as a sleazy wrestling promoter wasn’t enough, the movie also heavily features a caveman-ified CM Punk. WWE and Punk are probably never, ever getting back together, but it takes a long time to make a cartoon, and Punk was still with the company when they were doing voice work for this thing, so there’s now a WWE cartoon starring UFC fighter CM Punk(rock) as its main villain.
While we’re at it, here’s Fred announcing a match between John Cena-Stone and Rey Myteriopal.
This move looks fun, but it’s rock-themed names are weak. I’m guessing they just assumed they’d be able to get The Rock and Stone Cold, so they didn’t hire anybody good with rock puns. How else to explain Cena-Stone, The Boulder Twins and Daniel Bry-Rock?
