The Bet is an upcoming indie comedy produced by former Army of Freshman band members Chris Jay and Aaron Goldberg, that tells the story of a man who has to sleep with 12 different girls over the course of one summer in order to save his house. It looks like it’s coming out about 15 years too late (truly shocked that neither DJ Qualls nor Jason Biggs are in this), but who knows, maybe it will be a riot.
One thing it does have going for it is the fact that they managed to snag not one, not two, but four separate wrestling legends to appear, as Diamond Dallas Page, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Tommy Dreamer, and the late Roddy Piper will all be featured.
The Bet tells the story of Denton Baker, a loser in life and love who gets into a high stakes bet where he has one summer to find and hook up with every girl he had a crush on growing up from 1st grade to 12th grade.
The Bet stars “Diamond” Dallas Page as Mr. Baker, an eccentric inventor and the father of Denton, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts as Mr. Lucas, a successful businessman whose company is up for grabs as part of the bet.
The Bet also features, in his final on screen appearance, WWE Hall of Famer, the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper as Denton’s concerned neighbor, Mr. Jablonski, as well as an appearance from ECW’s Tommy Dreamer as a confused umpire.
In addition to Page, Roberts, Piper and Dreamer, The Bet features cameos from a host of faces in the comedy and music worlds including Hip Hop icon, Chuck D (Public Enemy), comedians like Gerry Bednob (The 40 Year Old Virgin), Dave England (Jackass), Dian Bachar (BASEketball) and many more!
It’s truly a shame that Roddy Piper’s final movie role was not Hell Comes to Frogtown 2 (we’re all better off pretending that Lou Ferrigno sequel never existed), but being in the same movie as Chuck D is as good of a consolation as any, I suppose.
As you can see from the trailer, DDP isn’t exactly Daniel Day Lewis as the main character’s father, but we’ll give him a pass. Also, Tommy Dreamer as a confused umpire is the role he was born to play.
You can see The Bet on VOD, and DVD/Blu-ray this July.
