When Sami Zayn’s friend El Generico was on the independent scene, he took credit for having one of the most exciting, but most dangerous finishers in all of prowrestling: the brainbustaaaaaaah!
The maneuver saw Generico ascend the second turnbuckle to hoist his opponentĀ into the sky for a vertical suplex, only to drop them headfirst onto the top turnbuckle. I remember when I first saw the move at the ECW arena in 2002 — it ignited the crowd on fire and caused an audible explosion from the audience. But, it’s one of those moves that when you know it’s coming, you hope that all goes well with the execution. Just one wrong slip and the recipient of the move could easily lose their life.
Case in point: the video clip above. In it, one wrestler attempts to perform the move to disastrous results. He completely misses the top turnbuckle and slams his opponent onto the mat for what can only be called an extreme botch brainbuster. If you’re asking yourself, “Did he die?” then you’re in for a welcomed treat. Here’s the explanation of what happened afterwards from Reddit user Lane95:
Falls count anywhere match. This happens and he rolls outside yelling he can’t move anything and that his neck is broken. Crowd is standing in silence. Commentary mentions theres people in the audience calling an ambulance. Promoter, ring crew, ref, and opponent all stand around checking on him. He pops up and school boys his opponent for the win. Crowd loses their sh*t they’re so pissed.
So, what could have been a career and life-threatening move, turned into one of the greatest finishes in a wrestling match in the modern era. Well done, gentlemen. Well, kind of well done.
