Austin Aries debuted in NXT back in January, and ever since he turned heel via sarcastic hate-dancing, he’s been one of the most consistently entertaining people in the promotion. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury on Wednesday night that was bad enough to stop the main event of NXT’s show in Fresno, which was part of the Yellow Brand’s current tour of California.
The main event of the evening was a tag match pitting Aries and Samoa Joe against Shinsuke Nakamura and No Way Jose. As you can see from the above and below videos, Aries went for a rolling elbow and got caught full-on in the face by a brutal straight right kick.

As Nakamura appeared to set up for the Kinshasa, he was waved off by the referee, who then immediately stopped the match. Fans reported that there was a lot of blood, which the trainers, referees and EMTs attended to, and that Aries left under his own power, but was sporting a black eye.
I don't know what the end result is, but Austin Aries got caught by Shinsuke. Possible eye/jaw injury or concussion. #NXTfresno pic.twitter.com/T0RpMzsfb7

Some fans in attendance claimed a possible jaw injury, but any official confirmation or corroboration is not available at this time. It’s possible Aries could still be back in action later in the California tour, which runs through Sunday, but if he ends up being out of action for any significant amount of time, we’ll keep you posted.
Get better soon, Austin. Remember to keep your potassium levels up.
UPDATE: Aries reportedly only needed stitches and didn’t have any further injury, but HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD LOOK AT THIS PHOTO.

Just a totally normal face on a person, nothing to see here.
