Just a week and a day after Finn Bálor became the very first WWE Universal Champion, a Fatal 4-Way to award the vacant title to a new champ was the main event on Raw. Last week, Raw held A Series Of Matches that set up this Fatal 4-Way elimination match for the title after Bálor surrendered the belt due to an injury that he suffered while winning it at SummerSlam.
When the smoke cleared at the end of Monday night’s episode of Raw, Kevin Owens stood alone as the new Universal Champion.
Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns and Big Cass all went toe-to-toe on Monday after advancing last week against Sami Zayn, Neville, Chris Jericho and Rusev, respectively. Big Cass was eliminated first, after being hit by a Superman Punch from Reigns, a kick from Rollins and a frog splash from Owens. Reigns looked to be in control when Triple H appeared and Pedigreed him on the floor, then helped Rollins pin him. Triple H then turned on Rollins and Pedigreed him, allowing Owens to get the pin and the title.
This is the first world title in WWE for Kevin Owens, although he has held the NXT Championship. He may now be aligned with Triple H, although it looks like the Seth Rollins face turn is finally complete.
