The show featured a confrontation between SummerSlam opponents Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler on Miz TV, plus a main event of John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio. WWE Smackdown Live Results:
— The show opens with Randy Orton signing his SummerSlam contract backstage. Heath Slater shows up with a fruit basket for Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. Orton says he has an idea.
— Miz TV in the ring with Miz and Maryse’s special guests, Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler. They jawed at each other and Ziggler left Ambrose laying with a sucker-punch superkick.
— During the commercial, Apollo Crews was trolled into coming out by Miz and left him laying.
1. The Usos, American Alpha and Hype Bros defeated The Vaudevillains, The Ascension and Breezango. This was a 12-man tag team match to showcase the Smackdown tag team division. American Alpha picked up the win for their team with the Grand Amplitude.
2. Naomi vs. Eva Marie ended in a no contest. Naomi had a new entrance, music and gear, but Eva Marie’s narrator announced that Eva Marie would be unable to compete, due to traffic.
3. Heath Slater defeated Randy Orton. Orton refused to stop beating up Slater and heed the referee’s instructions, so the referee disqualified him. Orton continued the attack after the bell and hit a barricade-hung DDT on the floor, followed by a pair of Brock Lesnar-taunting German suplexes and an RKO back in the ring.
— Backstage, Heath Slater was offered a contract by Shane and Bryan, but they too it away when Slater was too loopy to think straight.
4. Dean Ambrose defeated Erick Rowan. Rowan and Wyatt stared down Randy Orton as they made their entrance and he departed. Ambrose won his match with Dirty Deeds.
— After the match, Bray Wyatt turned his back on Erick Rowan and left him alone in the ring.
5. Becky Lynch and Carmella defeated Natalya and Alexa Bliss. During a double-knockdown spot, Eva Marie finally arrived and made her grand entrance. Naomi appeared and chased her, distracting Natalya long enough for Becky Lynch to slap the Disarmer on her.
6. John Cena defeated Alberto Del Rio. AJ Styles was on commentary for this match. Cena won with an Attitude Adjustment.
— After the match, Styles got in the ring and attacked Cena, saying Cena’s time is up. Cena then hit Styles with an Attitude Adjustment, then hit another Attitude Adjustment off the ring steps, putting Styles through the announce table.
