As he poked fun at in the trailer for Last Week Tonight, the biggest disadvantage to John Oliver’s new show is that it occurs but once a week. That means contemporaries like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will almost always get first crack at lampooning world events.
But occasionally the schedule will work in Oliver’s favor, as it did for last night’s premiere. Oliver was served a fat pitch over the heart of the plate when Clippers owner Donald Sterling was caught being a horrible racist in tapes that didn’t surface until late Friday night.
