A titan of genre cinema passed yesterday: Ray Harryhausen. A close friend of Ray Bradbury, Harryhausen is essentially the father of modern genre cinema and in many ways the man who defined much genre work visually, from comic books to video games. You see his influence in everything from modern-day special effects blockbusters to the design and gameplay of the God Of War games. But the man spoke not through his words, but his work, and it’s a poor tribute that doesn’t put that first.
So here are a few GIFs, of the work that still holds up today.
