Can you smell it, people? Take a whiff. That’s the beautiful aroma of it being NFL, NBA, college football and college basketball season, otherwise known as the “sports utopia” or “perfect SportsCenter weather.” While the (legally) paid hoopers kicked off their 82-game slate last night, the same can be said for a handful of the college guys, including Andrew Wiggins’ official debut at the University of Kansas.
To be fair, the competition, Pittsburgh State, wasn’t exactly Final Four-worthy, but it’s at least refreshing to see the youngin’ balling against someone other than his own teammates. The Jayhawks ended up winning by 40 points in what was no more than a glorified scrimmage, but Wiggins coasted for 16 points and six rebounds that was headlined by an impressive poster alley-oop. Sophomore forward Ellis Perry also added 16 points in the 97-57 rout.
In terms of legit competition, I’m putting this reminder out there one more time – November 12, 8:30 p.m. EST, ESPN, at the United Center in Chicago, Kansas vs. Duke aka Andrew Wiggins vs. Jabari Parker. You’re welcome.
And speaking Parker and Duke, they ran through Bowie State this past Saturday. Credit our own Doug Howser for the assist here. Just fast forward to the 1:00 mark.
