Laura Ziskin, who produced all three “Spider-Man” movies, died of breast cancer today at 61.
Ziskin was a lot more than Spidey’s producer, though, even though she was working on “The Amazing Spider-Man” right up to her death. She had been struggling with breast cancer for eight years, and had started a foundation that has, so far, raised $200 million for charity. In addition, she had a thirty year career in Hollywood in a male-dominated job.
Before she turned to Spidey, she produced hits like “Pretty Woman” and “As Good as It Gets”. She also ran a division of Fox, and is responsible for, among other films, “Fight Club” as an executive producer.
Ziskin is survived by her husband Alvin Sargent and her daughter, Julia. Our thoughts are with the family.
