A couple of hours ago dimly lit human Twitter fail Ashton Kutcher tweeted out a link to a fake dating video in which he plays a variety of male characters seeking romance — one of which being an Indian guy he portrays in brown face. Because darkening one’s skin is socially unacceptable in 2012, the video — a web ad for Popchips, of which Kutcher is the celebrity spokesperson — has caused a bit of an uproar.
Leading the outrage charge on Twitter, sort of ironically given their name, is Das Racist, two of whose three members are Indian.
Tech startup person Anil Dash, also Indian, is pissed as well, writing, “I can’t imagine I have to explain this to anyone in 2012, but if you find yourself putting brown makeup on a white person in 2012 so they can do a bad ‘funny’ accent in order to sell potato chips, you are on the wrong course. Make some different decisions.”
Watch the video for yourself…
So is Ashton Kutcher — recently rumored to be dating Mila Kunis (f*ck you, Ashton Kutcher. F*CK. YOU.) — an idiot AND a racist? More than likely not, but he is a bit of an idiot. And this ad isn’t even close to being funny, which only compounds the situation.
