Well it certainly looks like this whole “circumvent Ticketmaster and scalpers using the internet” thing is working out okay so far for Louis C.K.
Louis revealed on Twitter last night that after the first 45 hours, his tour has already sold 100,000 tickets and grossed $4.5 million. Louis’s response: “I guess it was a good idea.”
C.K. talked about his thinking behind the do-it-yourself strategy this week on Bill Simmons’ podcast — you can listen to the whole thing here, and you should because it’s pretty great — and noted that a big part of his motivation was to make his live shows affordable for fans.
“Making my shows affordable has always been my goal, but two things have always worked against that. High ticket charges and ticket re-sellers marking up the prices,” he said. “By selling the tickets exclusively on my site, I’ve cut the charges way down and absorbed them into the ticket price.
And don’t forget — the season premiere of Louie airs tonight on FX. Can’t F*cking. Wait.
