The internet is made of cats, so it’s only fitting that internet cat videos are finally getting their own film festival sponsored by a respectable museum. The Internet Cat Video Film Festival will take place at Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center on August 30th. You can nominate cat videos here. Well, you know what I’m doing for the rest of the day.
Katie Czarniecki Hill is organizing the event and explains how this waking dream will unfold:
While normally viewed alone on a computer screen, our unofficial cat-lady-in-residence invites you to come gather together on the field and LOL in the presence of others as your favorite silly cat videos are projected larger-than-life one after the other. [Walker Art]
Sweet mystery of life at last I’ve found you.
I’ve visited Walker a few times, so I should probably mention this film festival isn’t taking place at the museum itself, but rather at Walker Open Field. That’s a fancy way of saying they have activities out on their lawn during the summer, often geared toward kids. So the Internet Cat Video Film Festival will be out in the yard. Awww, the kitties can’t get inside the house.
Even though this won’t be screened inside next to, say, Walker’s collection of seminal works from the Arte Povera movement, we’re still moving one step closer to legitimizing what I do all day every day. And cat pictures? Did somebody say cat pictures? I heard somebody (my internal monologue) say “cat pictures” . . .
