Star Wars Battlefront has been out for nearly nine months, but EA and developer DICE still have strong plans to support the game this holiday with the new Death Star expansion, and some content that will tie into the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Let’s get into the Death Star stuff first. EA has detailed an all-new mode called Battle Station, which basically simulates the entire final sequence of the original Star Wars. The mode is broken into three phases — the first is a huge space battle that lets you take down a Star Destroyer, the second is an on-foot mission that tasks you with retrieving somebody important from inside the Death Star (a droid rather than a princess in this case), and finally it’s time to go on that trench run to put an end to the Empire’s mega weapon. This really sounds like the kind of elaborate experience players have been asking and hoping for from Star Wars Battlefront.
In addition to the Death Star expansion, a free Playstation VR X-wing mission is coming to Star Wars Battlefront, and EA has revealed the mission will be Rogue One-themed. It’s not entirely clear at this point how the VR Mission will tie into Rogue One, but we do know you’ll be able to explore the cockpit of an X-wing, and engage in an intense space battle (if your stomach can handle it). But that’s not all the Rogue One content you can expect — a full expansion, which will add the tropical planet Scarif, and new characters Jyn Erso and Director Krennic, is also on the way.
Star Wars Battlefront — Death Star drops sometime in September, the Rogue One VR Mission arrives alongside the Playstation VR headset on October 13, and the Rogue One: Scarif expansion is expected sometime around the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in December.
