I have never been the biggest Animal Collective fan, which is to say, I’ve never been an Animal Collective fan. It’s not hard to recognize the brilliance of Strawberry Jam and Merriweather Post Pavilion, but like, say, an opera singer’s voice, I can appreciate what I’m hearing, without actually enjoying it.
The experimental foursome, who will NEVER play the songs you want to hear live because they’re jerks like that, will release their ninth album, Centipede Hz, on September 3rd, and last night, they revealed the first single from said album, “Today’s Supernatural.” Yet again, it’s magnificently put together, yet does little on an emotional level.
