We know who that is, Percy! What’s Ethan Carter III doing in the NXT Zone?

NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia had a lot of great moments — Aleister Black double-stomping Adam Cole through a table among them — but our personal favorite had to be the first WWE appearance (slash character-change return) of Impact Wrestling’s former MVP, Ethan Carter III, aka former “NXT rookie” Derrick Bateman.

Carter, identified only as “EC 3” because I guess his aunt Dixie Carter isn’t making the jump with him, left Impact earlier this month, and the cancellation of independent dates for this weekend hinted that he’d be showing up sooner rather than later. It’s still Saturday night at the time of this post, so no idea if he’s sticking around in his former home of NXT, or if he’s showing up at #3 in Sunday night’s Royal Rumble.

Let’s hope the relationship between EC3 and Rockstar Spud follows the Broken Universe in the recent trend of Impact’s best characters and ideas being WWE-bound.

Also making his cameo appearance debut on WWE television were recent signees War Machine and Ricochet, so the future of NXT — again, should they stick around, and not make the jump to the main roster — is in safe hands.
