If you haven’t heard, there’s a remake of the 1989 Jean Claude Van-Damme classic Kickboxer being released soon, and it stars Dave Bautista as Tong Po. No, seriously.
The first teaser for the film was released on Tuesday, and we get a look at its all-star MMA and martial arts cast, from The Animal to Gina Carano and Georges St-Pierre. Yes, Jean Claude Van-Damme is here, too, looking like an incognito Colonel Guile on vacation. It looks good enough so far, and man, nobody has mastered “walking confidently while looking tough and green” quite like Batista. I’m not sure if that’ll translate to him actually being able to kickbox, but I’m down to find out.
My only real request for the film is that someone recreates the infamous JCVD dance sequence from the original, only to freeze every time Tong Po looks over.
