It was a bit flukey, but a familiar face scored the U.S. Women’s National Team’s first goal in the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Midfielder Megan Rapinoe scored her 30th international goal for the Yanks, thanks to a fortunate bounce off of an Australian defender. Here it is from another angle:
Rapinoe showed an excellent bit of skill to take control of the ball while surrounded by several defenders, and the deflection in the 12th minute caught Australian keeper Melissa Barbieri off guard. As she’s known to do, Rapinoe celebrated her second career World Cup goal in style.
