Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on The Walking Dead, is currently hard at work with her charitable organization Almasi Arts Alliance. In fact, as part of her charity, she’s offering one lucky fan the opportunity attend the sixth season premiere, visit the set, attend a weapons training session, and get made up as a zombie.
During a media event a while back, however, Gurira also addressed the fact that her character on The Walking Dead has not had any romantic opportunities, so far, and she agrees with fans: It’s about time she gets a boyfriend.
“I love that folks want Michonne to get some,” she told EW. “I always say that. I say to my boss, ‘Michonne’s a nun. She don’t give none, she don’t get none.’”
The question is: Will it be Rick or could it be Morgan?
As for the possibilities with Rick?
“The Richonne thing—we get it a lot,” says Gurira. “They’re friends, you know. And people want that.” Yes, yes they do. People want that Richonne thing, and the react VERY badly when it doesn’t go their way.
To the dismay of Richonne fans, however, there might be another possibility: Morgan.
Comic Spoilers Ahead
In the comics, Morgan and Michonne develop some sexual chemistry, but none of that is apparent so far in the television series, though Morgan and Michonne’s screen time together has been very limited. However, according to Gurira, there’s not much hint of any impending sexual chemistry:
“When we think about the last time these two characters met… Michonne was weirded out,” actress Danai Gurira told Access Hollywood. “Michonne was like, ‘Who is this guy? He’s crazier than me and this is weird,'”
“So she’s kind of like… ‘He’s back in our lives and he does this weird thing to Rick.’ So she’s kind of like on this weird path with him… because she doesn’t know who he is. What she remembers is not something safe or something comfortable.”
In other words, I wouldn’t worry too much, Richonne fans. Rick and Michonne may not hook up in the sixth season, but you don’t have to worry too much about Michonne expressing romantic interest in someone else. Rick, on the other hand?
Let’s just be thankful that those rumors that Michonne might be killed off in the sixth season were proven unfounded. In fact, Rick and Michonne surviving until the end and getting together would fit perfectly into Robert Kirkman’s vision for the end of the series.
