Today in “minor league baseball uniforms,” the Norfolk Tides decided that they want to honor SpongeBob SquarePants next month. On August 7, the Tides will take on the Indianapolis Indians. Thanks to a partnership with Nickelodeon, the squad will wear special SpongeBob uniforms during the game, with the rest of the game featuring plenty of other SpongeBob-related promotions, according to the team:
Costumed characters (SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick) will be on hand during the game to interact with fans on the concourse. Throughout the game there will be SpongeBob themed music and video clips played as well as SpongeBob trivia. After the game will be a post-game fireworks extravaganza. “The Norfolk Tides are excited to be involved with Nickelodeon and are elated to be the first Minor League Baseball Club to wear these unique and fun SpongeBob SquarePants jerseys” said Tides General Manager Joe Gregory.
Can you imagine being a batter, standing in the box, and facing a pitcher who has SpongeBob’s giganting face sprawled across his chest? And then looking out into the field, and seeing seven other men with the exact same face staring back at you? That sounds terrifying. No matter, this seems like a fun promotion, and the jerseys will be on sale in a silent auction after the game with proceeds benefiting the local chapter of the United Way, so if you really want a SpongeBob jersey and want to help a good cause, you should go to Norfolk next month.
