The week in new music pretty much went through The Weeknd. In addition to his new album, Beauty Behind The Madness, dropping this week, he also released his video for “Tell Your Friends.” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis also released their comeback clip for “Downtown,” and we got new stuff from A$AP Rocky and Justin Bieber.
But, of course, that’s not all we got this week. Here are the best new songs and videos you may have missed.
Destroyer – “Times Square”

The new album from Dan Bejar’s band, Destroyer, dropped this week, and they released a brand new clip to celebrate for “Times Square.” In a stop-motion visual, goblins and brains and other creatures walk about a forest, watch TV, and roll up joints. If the real Times Square was anything like this, it wouldn’t be such a chore to walk through. Instead, it has racist Elmos, naked cowboys, and topless women. We’d prefer Destroyer’s version any day.
Jim James – “Take Care Of You”
Owen Wilson’s new film No Escape, better known as “that movie where they throw the kid off the roof,” managed to land My Morning Jacket’s Jim James for a soundtrack cut. “Take Care Of You” is a slow and sweet song that creeps up on you, and this is Jim James’ first solo track since 2013. The video is mainly of Jim and clips from the movie, including that infamous hurl. So if you want to hear the sweet vocals of MMJ’s leader set over a scared-as-sh*t Lake Bell, here is your chance.
Eagles Of Death Metal – “Complexity”
Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age and Jesse “The Devil” Hughes are have teamed up again in their bangin’ hard rock band Eagles Of Death Metal. “Complexity,” the latest cut from the forthcoming Zipper Down, shows the two in black and white as garage rockers in an avant garde world. Part Velvet Underground, part Simon and Garfunkel; the visual is very against-type to the freewheeling hard rock track. Yet, somehow it all still works. Josh and Jesse always end up having the last laugh.
DJ Cassidy Feat. Chromeo And Wale – “Future Is Mine”
Earlier this summer, DJ Cassidy recruited electrofunk rockers Chromeo to make the breezy summer single “Future Is Mine.” Now that the weather is cooling down a bit, Cass is trying to get one last squeeze of out the warmer months with this remix with Wale. To be honest, this soulful and funky track could be played year round. Wale adds some quick bars to refresh the track on people’s minds and he works fairly well with the Canadian funkateers. This is summer party music, but also spring wedding music. Hell, just anytime good music frankly.
Mario Feat. Rick Ross – “Forever”

It’s easy to forgot that in the 2000s, Mario was everywhere. He was in movies, on TV, and of course topping the charts with songs like “Let Me Love You,” “Crying Out For Me,” and “Break Up.” But the R&B star hasn’t really released much since his 2009 album D.N.A. Well, now, the singer is back and in a big way by teaming with MMG boss Rick Ross. “Forever” is our intro to Mario in the 2010s with trap-influenced drums and modern beats paired with his traditional crooning. It honestly feels like one of those songs that kind of hangs around the charts and the radio for a while. And yes, we avoided saying the title of the song there. Welcome back, Mario.
