Emma Lynam is a 21-year-old Australian woman who loves nothing more than shredding paper. She loves shredding so much, in fact, that she’s started her own business, which she calls “Master Shredder,” after one of her favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters. What’s most impressive about Emma’s business, however, isn’t its name; it’s the fact that Emma lives with Down syndrome, autism and hearing loss, and that the shredding business has turned her into a new person.
In a video produced by ABC Open North Queensland, Emma’s mother speaks about why she wanted to help Emma start a business and how it’s changed the 21-year-old’s life for the better. Watching the video above, there’s no denying that absolutely no one is as happy as Emma to be shredding paper all day, which means that even though she’s getting paid for it, she isn’t working at all! She’s having the time of her life! (How many of us can say that about going to work?)
With Emma’s business going, her mom is sure that she’ll be able to integrate into the community and “stand on her own two feet” as much as she’s able. And that? It’s pretty awesome.
