Now that the masses have gotten what they’ve been clamoring for — plans for Spider-Man to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — they’re already envisioning films with other Spider-verse (we are still calling it that, right?) characters. Talk to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, however, and he’s likely to ask you to dial it down a notch or two. In his mind, he’d really like to get the original wall-crawler into this world he helped create first.
At a recent Avengers: Age of Ultron home video release event, MTV News tracked down Feige and asked him about the possibility of other Spider-Man related characters — such as, say, the currently uber-popular Spider-Gwen in the comics — in their own films. Feige, not outright dismissing the possibility, responded, “Our job right now is that single Spider-Man movie based in the MCU. And that’s where all our focus is.”
As for the web-slinger himself (to be played by 19-year-old British actor Tom Holland), he’ll be making his first on-screen MCU appearance in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016 before getting his Sony-distributed stand-alone film a little more than a year later.
