There are no words to accurately describe what TCU did to Texas through the first half of Saturday’s game. At the end of the first quarter, the Horned Frogs were up 30-0 and Texas had 20 yards of total offense. At the end of the half, it wasn’t much better, as TCU held a 37-0 lead and the Longhorns missed a pair of field goals, but at least Texas made it all the way up to 156 yards of total offense. This loss could one-up what is considered the worst loss in Longhorns history. On Sept. 13, 1997, Texas went to UCLA to take on the Bruins and got totally run off the field in what has commonly been called “Rout 66”. UCLA, behind five first-half touchdown passes from quarterback Cade McNown, took down Texas with a score of 66-3. Here’s how one Texas alumnus reacted at the half of that game, via a 2010 story in The Austin American-Statesman:
Longtime benefactor Joe Jamail lent his name to the actual field in a dedication that afternoon, but was so disgusted after UCLA’s Cade McNown threw five first-half touchdown passes that the legendary Texas trial lawyer headed to the elevators at halftime and said he was “going to go lay down on my field the same as our team is.”
If it keeps up, this could go down as the worst shutout loss in school history.

Sure, TCU is one of the best teams in America while Texas is, uh, not. Regardless, getting blown out by a conference and in-state foe is a horrible look for the school that was long perceived as the top program in Texas for a long time.
