I would say that this latest lack of empathy and human emotion from the NFL surprises me, but honestly at this point, nothing about this league surprises me anymore. Defensive end Cameron Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers recently honored his late father, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, who died of cancer in 2006, with his eye black Monday night against the San Diego Chargers. Craig Heyward, who went by the nickname Ironhead, played in the NFL as a fullback for 11 years. Cam paid tribute to his father against the Chargers by writing the words “Iron Head” across his eye black. He said Wednesday on Twitter that he has been fined by the NFL for wearing it.
Got fined for honoring my Dad who bravely fought cancer on my eye black. #Nevergiveup #CancerSucks pic.twitter.com/RTx988ijG9

Heyward’s father died after a seven-year battle with brain cancer. He was 39-years-old.
This news comes just a day after the No Fun League told running back DeAngelo Williams of the Steelers, who wanted to wear pink for the entirety of the 2015-16 season to honor his late mother who died of breast cancer, that he could wear it during the month of October only. The NFL, which annually promotes breast cancer awareness by pumping out pink merchandise for fans and allows players to wear pink accessories such as socks or gloves, sadly only gives 8.01 percent of the money raised by the merchandise to breast cancer research. The rest of the money is for overhead costs.
You’ve still got a ways to go, NFL.
