Four Rye-Based Friday Cocktails, Plus Your UPROXX Stories Of The Week

We have not one, but four drinks for you this week. Classics with a twist — drinks that will impress without ever seeming to show off. Good stuff.

First, a few browser tabs to throw open as you wind down your week:

We covered October 21’s Back to the Future Day…a lot. We wrote about the future of food and the future of travel, we talked to “futurists,” and we even interviewed a 1980s era futurist about his 2015 predictions.

Uproxx Sports handed out their college football midseason awards and made some predictions for the remainder of the year. Dime Magazine interviewed Paul Pierce about the “storybook ending” he envisions for his career in LA.

Uproxx Life looked at Mexico’s “viral church” and other places on earth that feel like Game of Thrones sets, and spoke to Brandon Jennings (not the NBA player) — who takes old Nikonos underwater cameras and sends them around the world for people to try out. Jennings gave us a whole collection of incredible photos to enjoy.

Uproxx music dropped Adele’s first video in three years. In case you were curious, she’s still awesome. Uproxx’s TV team was deeply impressed by how You’re the Worst handled mental illness, while over in movies, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer finally dropped.

THE DRINKS: Rye on the Rise

Rye whiskey — which is spicier and less mellow than its cousin, bourbon — is having its day in the sun. The Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUS), recently reported that rye whiskey volumes have grown 536 percent over the past five years. That’s a pretty crazy uptick.

Rye’s flavor profile is a hit with bartenders too. Here are a few recipes — simple, smart, and full of flavor — for to try at home:
