Jerry Seinfeld and the Madison Square Garden Company announced at a press conference today that the comedian and former television star will begin a monthly stand-up residency at the Beacon Theatre where he promises to bring out his best material as opposed to the surprise club appearances that he sometimes makes across the city when he is working out fresh material.
Seinfeld’s concerts at the 2,800-seat venue will debut in the new year under the banner, “Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand.” Seinfeld is presently booked to do six shows, with the first scheduled for Jan. 7, but he seemed open to doing more at a venue that he said was, “made for comedy,” despite its long musical history.
The Beacon gig also stands out as an alternative to the more lucrative and likely long-term residencies in Atlantic City or Las Vegas that have doubtlessly been dangled in front of the comic, but you can’t beat the flexibility that comes with a one night a month stable job that is located close to home.
While prices have not been revealed as of this moment, tickets for the show will go on sale at 11 a.m. on December 8.
