Otto Porter Jr. has been playing well for the Wizards so far this season, and on this play against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, he put a move on Jon Leuer that was so filthy he broke his own ankles, fell out of bounds and turned the ball over.
The Wizards would go on to win 109-106 in a contest that was characterized by this type of sloppy play throughout, as the two teams combined for 44 turnovers, several of which came down the stretch with the score close. The last two minutes of the game were marred by ill-advised fouls, delay of game calls, errant passes and missed free throws from both teams.
Porter had 13 points on 50 percent shooting from the field, but was responsible for five of Washington’s 23 turnovers. Leading the way for the Wizards was Bradley Beal, who dropped 34 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals, while backcourt mate John Wall added 17 points, nine assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals of his own for the night, but committed seven turnovers.
The Suns’ guard tandem had a solid night of their own as Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight scored 22 and 19 points respectively, in a losing effort. They were two of five players in double figures for Phoenix. Both teams were without their starting centers as Marcin Gortat had to travel back to Poland for an undisclosed family emergency, while Tyson Chandler sat out with a sore hamstring.
