Here’s The Best Sign That ‘Arrested Development’ Season Five Is Happening Yet

Previously, on Arrested Development: Jason Bateman said “there is no plan” for season five, despite Brian Grazer telling Bill Simmons that “we’re going to do another 17 episodes.” Production will reportedly begin on January 1, so expect new episodes “four months after that,” according to Grazer.

Also, a Bluth will be in a jail. I hope it’s not Franklin. Too political.

The latest he said-she said update comes from Ron Howard, Arrested‘s noble narrator. While trying to convince Good Morning America viewers that they should pay good money to see Thor fight a giant sperm whale (that should have been the movie’s title), he dropped this little nugget.

“Well, Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of the show, is working with writers now,” Howard informed, “Netflix is behind it, 20th Century Fox is behind it.”

Beamed [anchor Amy] Robach, “That sounds like a yes!”

Howard replied: “It’s hopeful. What has happened is that the cast has become so freakin’ in demand and busy. Everyone wants to do it. Fans want it. I would be saddened if we didn’t achieve it. I’m the announcer and the narrator, and I have to get back to that microphone.” (Via)

It’ll be tough for cast members to once again find the time to film new episodes, because as long as movies need someone to play sarcastic jerks and Batman, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett are busy. Jeffrey Tambor has Transparent, Tony Hale has Veep, Portia de Rossi has Scandal. If Carl Weathers is unavailable, Hurwitz should replace him with Nick Offerman. Approximately 12 people would “get” the reference, but they’d all be as happy as Lucille seeing Gene Parmesan.
