John Dineen, fiancé of Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery, has passed away at age 34. Dineen was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer earlier in 2015.
The illness led Dineen, who had been working with the FTI Consulting firm in London, to receive hospice care in Cork. The Independent reports that Dockery was with Dineen and his family before he passed away. A private funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday.
A statement put out by a spokesperson following Dineen’s death asks for understanding and courtesy during this difficult period.
“The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private.”
Dineen and Dockery began their relationship in the fall of 2013 when they were introduced by Downton Abbey co-star Allen Leech. The couple kept details about their partnership fairly private in the press. Reports circulated in February indicating that the pair had gotten engaged. The Sun spoke with a source about the engagement earlier this year.
“She’s over the moon and was showing it off to all of the cast and crew. It’s wonderful news and everyone is delighted. She and John make a lovely couple.”
Today marks Michelle Dockery’s 34th birthday.
