While much of the music-loving world is still grieving the loss of Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, a certain more-cynical breed of fan couldn’t help but feel a creeping fear. When will we see the reunion shows with a new lead singer? How far away are we — God help us — from Motörhead with Rome? Thankfully, the band’s drummer Mikkey Dee has cleared things up. There will be no post-Lemmy Motörhead.
In an interview with the Swedish publication Expressen, Dee said that Lemmy’s passing is the end of the band.
“Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. But the band will live on in the memories of many…We won’t be doing any more tours or anything. And there won’t be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone.”
Dee also talked about Lemmy’s declining health in the weeks leading up to his death and seemed awed by the singer’s ability to grit out their recent European tour dates.
“He was terribly gaunt, he spent all his energy onstage and afterwards he was very, very tired. It’s incredible that he could even play, that he could finish the Europe tour. It was only 20 days ago. Unbelievable.”
With that being said, Dee added that being able to finish the tour was a fitting send-off for someone like Lemmy.
“It feels fantastic that we were able to complete the tour with him. It’s heartening that we didn’t cancel because of Lemmy,” he said before adding that he was “incredibly grateful over the years we had.”
