How Often Should You Be Having Sex In A Happy Relationship?

A few weeks ago — armed with new research — Jimmy Kimmel sent his street team out to investigate how much sex the average couple is having. It offered plenty of good punchlines for Kimmel, but the question is legit. How much sex is “enough”?

We all could guess that erring on the side of infrequency would lead to a frigid, bitter relationship. That being said, getting down every night might prove exhausting — not to mention time consuming. You’ve got sh*t to do. (Like working out, to make yourself more physically desirable, so that you can have more sex!)

A recent study published in the Journal of Social Psychological and Personality Science surveyed more than 30,000 Americans spanning across 40 years and found the sweet spot. Apparently, couples who have sex less than once a week are less happy overall. While those couples who never leave the bedroom, or kitchen floor, or shower, or…wherever, don’t seem to be happier than those who hook up once a week.

Once a week seems to be where sex’s diminishing returns kick in. Sounds a little low for Uproxx standards, but who are we to argue with science? Meanwhile, people who have sex more than five times a week report bruising on their hands from all the high fives they give. Because sex is awesome, you see.
