Freed from the time-consuming demands of playing a paranoid blowhard (The X-Files) and studying all things Kardashian (The Soup), and also he was on this little unknown show called Community, Joel McHale has found his next series.
The Great Indoors is about a manly adventure reporter named Joel (played by McHale — typical Hollywood typecasting) who, according to EW, “must adapt to the times when he becomes the boss to a group of millennials in the digital department of the magazine.” If that sounds like a very CBS premise, that’s because it’s a CBS comedy, created by Tosh.0 writer Mike Gibbons.
[Joel] is further described as an “outdoorsy guy’s guy with a sardonic sense of humor. The longtime star reporter for The Great Outdoors magazine, Joel has climbed mountains, confronted bears, and just generally led a life of excitement and adventure. But when he’s sidelined by an injury, he’s forced to take a desk job in the publication’s digital and social media department, surrounded by a team of millennials who view him as an exotic and ancient oddity from another place and time.” (Via)
That bear from The Revenant is probably too big time for a guest spot. Anyway, if The Great Indoors ever does flashbacks to a time before Joel works with the most dangerous game of all, millennials, I hope we see a popped raft, and harpoons, and a locomotive that “runs on us.” (I really miss Community.)
