Taking a classic detective story, modernizing it, and turning it into a TV show worked so well for CBS with Elementary, that the network is going back to that well one more time.
That’s right, there’s going to be a Nancy Drew TV show and the network will dip into its deep talent pool and cast Sarah Shahi of Person of Interest to play the lead role.
Per EW, Nancy is now an NYPD detective who “investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.”
Sounds a lot like Elementary. That’s probably not a coincidence. Anyway, Shahi, who had her own USA series Fairly Legal and also appeared on The L Word, Ray Donovan, Chicago Fire, and one of the all-time best episodes of The Sopranos, will join co-stars Anthony Edwards (ER, Revenge of the Nerds) and Vanessa Ferlito (Graceland) when the series films its pilot.
CBS execs said that they were looking for “a diverse actor” to play Nancy back when they announced plans for the show, so Shahi, who is of Iranian and Spanish descent, fits the bill. No word yet on whether the Tiffany Network has any plans to update The Hardy Boys as well, though that would be a natural next link in the chain.
