Reboots are common these days, especially when it comes to things from the ’80s and ’90s. Everything old is new again, with many childhoods up against the wall, hoping not to get murdered. No worries for fans of Ducktales. The image above is the first peek for Disney’s new reboot of the classic series and things look smooth.
The show is set for a 2017 premiere, but this peek gives us our first real glimpse at the classic characters in a new style. According to Disney’s official blog, the “new” style actually has some old, classic influences:
This new series once again stars Scrooge McDuck, grandnephews Huey, Duey, and Louie, and of course, Donald Duck. Based on this image, this new series will once again feature the kind of comic misadventures the original show was so well known for. As for the style, this is decidedly traditional, borrowing from the streamlined graphic style of the insanely popular Mickey Mouse short series.
It looks pretty sweet. It isn’t trying to mimic the old style from the series, which is likely good given how much time has passed, but it still has the same feel when you look at the image. Also Donald Duck is back around, which makes you wonder if this will be something that continues from the Scrooge comic strip or if it will be in the original series universe. Just typing that last bit felt really sad.
The main thing most will be worried about is likely the theme song. Will we get some sort of EDM update to the original or will they just hold on to a classic?
