The second season of Daredevil is tantalizingly close, and this time around Matt Murdock is bringing some new costumed friends with him. In addition to The Punisher, iconic Daredevil ally, rival and love interest Elektra will be making her debut this season. The trailers for the second season of Daredevil have been packed with Elektra footage, but what’s this mysterious martial artist all about?
Created by Frank Miller in 1981, the comic book Elektra was a Greek law student, who finds herself driven to become a martial arts master after her father is killed. She ends up training with Matt Murdock’s mentor, Stick, and eventually Daredevil and Elektra embark on a tempestuous, and ultimately doomed, relationship.
It’s uncertain if the TV Elektra, played by French-Cambodian actress Elodie Yung, will follow the same path as the comic book version, but you can be sure things will be rocky at times, with Elektra often following her own unclear agenda. That said, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Yung explained the Daredevil/Elektra relationship will make sense as it unfolds on screen…
“She brings out the evil side in him a bit. And you know, maybe Elektra misses having someone good around her, to balance her out. Because they really do complete each other.”
Check out the video above for some extra Elektra info, then get ready for the sparks to fly when Daredevil season two hits Netflix on March 18.
